Years of Medical Tourism

A few years ago, a friend in California called me at 2 AM.

Her dental bill: $47,000.
Her savings: not enough.
Her options: pay, or live with the pain.

She'd done everything right. She had a job. She had insurance. And she still couldn't afford to fix her own teeth.

Tran Huu Phuoc, Founder of Meditrips

I'm Phước. I'm Vietnamese - and I knew there was a third option, because I grew up watching something most Americans never noticed: Vietnamese hospitals quietly becoming world-class. New equipment. International-trained surgeons. JCI accreditation. The kind of care that gets exported to the Gulf States and Southeast Asia - just never marketed to the people in California who needed it most.

So I made a call back. And we figured it out together.

That conversation became Meditrips.

Not a travel agency. Not a hospital. Something the industry didn't have a name for yet.

The friend you call at 2 AM - who happens to know exactly which surgeon in Ho Chi Minh City handles her case, exactly what the procedure should cost, and exactly what questions to ask before she books a single flight.

I built Meditrips because the problem isn't that good healthcare doesn't exist. It exists - often at 20 cents on the dollar compared to U.S. prices, in hospitals that would make American administrators jealous. The problem is that most Americans have no way to find it, trust it, or navigate it alone.

That's the gap we fill.

  • Every partner hospital we work with carries JCI accreditation or its equivalent — the same international standard used to evaluate top facilities in the U.S. and Europe. We don't list a hospital because they offered us a good commission. We list them because we'd send our own families there.
  • Every quote we send breaks down every fee - facility charges, surgeon's fee, anesthesia, aftercare. No line items buried in fine print. No "we'll sort the rest when you arrive."
  • Every patient we work with gets a dedicated coordinator — a real person, reachable in your time zone - from the first inquiry to 30 days after you're back home.

This isn't charity. It's a better system.

Vietnam's hospitals don't cost less because they cut corners. They cost less because land is cheaper, labor markets are different, and malpractice insurance doesn't run $300,000 a year. The medicine is the same. The training is the same. The outcomes, for the procedures we coordinate, are the same.

What's different is the bill.

We're small on purpose. We work with a curated list of hospitals — not every facility in Vietnam, only the ones we've vetted personally. We serve American patients only — not because we're exclusive, but because serving one market well is harder than it looks, and doing it poorly helps no one.

If you're reading this, you're probably not calling us at 2 AM yet.
But if that moment comes - we'll pick up.
